Our privately-guided history and spa tour is based on our Classic Historical itinerary, with the addition of two nights at the Kuriftu Resort & Spa, a five-star hotel on the shore of Lake Tana. All the most famous historical sites, with the exception of Axum, are included - Bahir Dar, Gondar, Lalibela and Addis Ababa, as well as the spectacular Simyen Mountains, a UNESCO World heritage site of outstanding beauty.

Day 1
Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Addis Ababa.
Day 2
Addis Ababa
You arrive in Addis Ababa in the morning where you are be met by your guide and transferred to the Panorama Hotel for a 1 night stay with breakfast included.

After lunch, a tour of the city tour is provided.
Days 3 - 4
Bahir Dar
In the morning you fly to Bahir Dar, a small town on the shore of Lake Tana, and your base for exploring the famous island monasteries and grass-roofed churches, decorated with magnificent wall murals.

Stay at the five-star Kuriftu Resort & Spa for 2 nights, with all meals included.

Day 5
Simyen Mountains
Your overland journey continues onward to the Simyen Mountains, where you overnight in a chalet at Simien Lodge, all meals included.

Day 6
Gondar
Spend today exploring the beautiful Simyen Mountains, some of the most dramatic scenery in Africa. In the early morning, you will be driven up to Sankaber Camp, which will be your base. The Simyen Mountains National Park is a World Heritage Site and contains great volcanic plugs, formed 40 million years ago, and now shaped into fantastic crags and flat topped mountains. Seek out the endemic Galada or bleeding heart baboon, the Walia ibex and many endemic birds. Return to Gondar, founded in 1636 by Emperor Fasilidas who chose Gondar as his imperial seat. Here you can explore the Imperial Compound, with its enchanting 'Fasilidas' castles, still in very good condition.

Day 7
Lalibela
This morning you fly to Lalibela, home of the world famous subterranean churches, built 800 years ago, and still in use today. These rock-hewn churches are regarded as one of the wonders of the world.

Stay in Lalibela for 2 nights at the Jerusalem Guest House, all meals included.

Day 8
Lalibela
The church of Ashetun Mariam can be visited by mule or on foot. Its mountaintop location provides magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Alternatively, you can visit the cave church of Neakuto Leab, or make the 40 km journey to see the beautiful cave church of Yemrehane Kristos, the choice is yours.
Day 9
Addis Ababa
Fly back to Addis Ababa and spend the afternoon shopping at the Merkato, Africa's biggest market. The market is known for its marvelous Ethiopian jewellery, exquisite clothing and fabrics - made locally - local music and much more. A farewell dinner will be arranged and you will be entertained with an authentic performance of traditional music and dance from the different regions of Ethiopia.

Overnight at Panorama Hotel, breakfast included.
Day 10
You will be transferred to the airport for the late morning flight to London Heathrow and arrive back in London early evening.

Inclusive of international flights (from London Heathrow), domestic Ethiopian Airlines flights, departure taxes, airport facilitation, all transfers and internal travel with all transportation, services of your full-time, professional, English-speaking escort-guide and of drivers, national park permits and park guide fees, entrance fees and local guide fees, all excursions and activities as outlined, all accommodation as per itinerary with all meals (full board everywhere except in Addis Ababa where it is B&B), based on two people travelling together and sharing in twin or double rooms.

Excludes: Ethiopian visa (issued on arrival), gratuties, additional sightseeing and transfers not mentioned, lunch and dinner in Addis Ababa and items of a personal nature (tips, phone calls, drinks, laundry, travel insurance) are not included.
