This new 11-day itinerary has been especially designed for intrepid families who are keen to explore and enjoy a tropical adventure together. This trip includes some of Costa Rica’s best known and most breathtaking sites offering something for parents and children alike, with accommodation specially selected to meet the needs of the whole family.

Itinerary

On this trip you will visit:
  • Arenal National Park
  • Monteverde Cloudforest
  • Pacific Coast Beaches
  • San Jose
Day 1
San Jose
You will be met on arrival in the capital San Jose and transferred to your hotel for two nights, the Best Western Irazu Hotel.
Day 2
San Jose
After breakfast visit the La Paz Waterfall Gardens where you can see the flora and fauna of the rainforest and the waterfalls. Also enjoy a short sightseeing tour of the capital learning about the culture and history and stopping off at the National Theatre and the National Museum.
Day 3
Sarapiqui
Early morning transfer to Sarapiqui in the northern Caribbean lowlands, where you will be based for two nights at the family-run La Quinta de Sarapiqui Lodge. Stop en route at the Rainforest Aerial Tram located 50 minutes from San Jose where you can go on the tram seeing the upper and intermediate levels of the rainforest.
Day 4
Sarapiqui
In the morning enjoy a chocolate tour at La Tirimbina plantation, a privately owned reserve which aims to preserve the tropical forests in Sarapiqui. You will learn about the chocolate process and get the chance to try different chocolates!
Day 5
La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano
Transfer to La Fortuna, close to the magnificent Arenal Volcano, which has been active since 1968. Stay for two nights at the Arenal Springs Hotel, a fantastic base for exploring the National Park. Take a 2.5 hour tour of the Arenal Volcano which involves a nice hike and takes you through the forest and close to the volcano. Afterwards visit the hot springs, a complex of thermal pools heated by the volcano – a soothing and unforgettable experience.
Day 6
Walk in the rainforest
After breakfast enjoy a Natural History Walk- on this three kilometre walk you will learn about the forest, enviornment and birds. This is a great way for visitors to the Arenal Volcano to enjoy the surroundings in a natural and eco-friendly way.
Day 7
Wilderness experience at Cloud Forest Lodge
Transfer to Monteverde by boat along the Arenal Lake (half tour half transfer)! Stay for two nights at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Lodge located near the small and friendly town of Santa Elena. In the afternoon visit a traditional sugar cane mill and coffee plantation.
Day 8
Snake and Frog Farm
Visit the Selvatura Park and enjoy a guided tour of the butterfly garden and snake and frog farm for a chance to get up close to some of the species that inhabit the forests.
Days 9 - 10
Relaxation by the beach
Transfer to the coast for two days relaxing at the Punta Leona hotel, close to Jacó beach on the Central Pacific coast. The beach here is safe and the waters calm and perfect for swimming. Plenty of activities are available for the children while parents can relax and soak up the beautiful location.
Day 11
You will be met at the hotel and drive to the airport at San Jose for your return flight to the UK.
