Lodge-Based Fly-in Botswana Safaris

Botswana      Zambia

Luxury fly-around safaris in Botswana are a superb way to see as much as possible in a shorter space of time. The game viewing in Botswana is world-class - from the waterways and islands of the Okavango Delta and the big game experiences in the Chobe National Park,  to the northern borders of the Moremi Reserve that encompasses the plains and marshes of the Linyanti, Kwando and Savute.

Known for the iconic, lush Okavango Delta, Botswana is also a country of deserts and we recommend adding this interesting dimension to a Botswana safari. Another option would be to incorporate a few nights at the Victoria Falls.  All our fly-around safaris are tailor-made and can be adapted to suit individual preferences.

On a fly-around safari you are transferred between the camps by light aircraft which is an exhilarating way to travel, giving you superb views of the landscapes below. Most of the accommodation is luxurious walk-in tents with proper beds and full en suite facilities. On this type of safari, game drives will be in four-wheel drive open vehicles and there will be opportunities for some walking and boating, including game-viewing from traditional dug out canoes (water levels permitting).

The itinerary here is popular example of a Botswana fly-around safari, but every trip is tailor-made and the best way to start planning is to chat with our experienced Southern Africa team.

Day 5
Linyanti or Savute Reserve, bordering the Chobe National Park
Light aircraft flight to the open grassy plains of the Selinda / Kwando Reserves or the Savute Marsh in the north, for a 3 night stay in a classic camp inclusive of all meals, local drinks, scheduled shared safari activities and park fees.

Your guided safari activities are in open safari vehicles heading out early morning and late afternoon to avoid the heat of the day. Due to the open nature of the areas, herds of plains game gather which are closely followed by the predators, giving excellent opportunity for Big Five game viewing.

The Selinda Reserve is west of Savute Channel (upstream) and Chobe National Park, giving the advantages the unique biodiversities that both of those famous areas have to offer but with the exclusivity of a private reserve. The area is centred around the Selinda Spillway which makes its way east towards the Okavango Delta with its open floodplains and savannas. Most famous for its resident prides of lion, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, cheetah, roan antelope, herds of elephant and packs of endangered wild dog.

Savuti is situated in the south western part of the Chobe National Park, characterised by the currently flooding Savuti Channel. The green season migration of Zebra, impala, wildebeest giraffe, tsessebe, buffalo and elephant, pass through this area (December to March). In the dry season wildlife congregates around the waterholes, attracting the herds and awaiting predators. Another unique feature is the surrounding granite kopjes of the Gubatsa Hills which were formed millions of years ago during volcanic movement and in which various Bushman paintings can be found. Sightings in this area tend to include large concentrations of elephants, hippo, cheetah, wild dog, various antelope and elephant killing lion.
