Belize - Off The Beaten Track

Itinerary

On this trip you will visit:
  • Caracol
  • Cayo District
  • Placencia and South Coast
Day 1
London-Belize
Upon arrival at Belize Airport you will be met and transferred into the rainforest in the Cayo District for a four night stay.
Day 2
Xunantunich & Belize Botanical Gardens
You will start your first full day in Belize by visiting the Xunantunich Maya archaeological site which contains ruins mostly dating from 200-900 AD. Here you will enjoy a private guided tour of this small site but special site. Afterwards, you will travel into the rainforest for a lunch at a beautiful lodge. In the afternoon, you will make a visit to the Belize Botanical Gardens which spread over 45 acres home to native and exotic plants in the Cayo District. (Breakfast and lunch are provided).
Day 3
Cave Adventure
Today you have a choice of activities either; take a canoe trip through the caves at Barton Creek or go to Actun Tunichil Muknal where you will go on a taxing jungle hike and cave trip which ends in a surprise! (Breakfast and lunch are provided).
Day 4
Caracol & Mountain Pine Ridge
Today you will travel through the beautiful Mountain Pine Ridge National Park and end at the Mayan Site at Caracol well-known for its great ruins- this is the largest Maya site in Belize! You will also visit the Rio Frio Caves and swim in the pools if there is time. (Breakfast and lunch are provided).
Day 5
Punta Gorda
Today you will fly to Punta Gorda which is positioned on the coast in a beautiful area of Belize! Here you will stay at the Lodge at Big Falls for three nights. (Breakfast and dinner are provided).
Day 6
Mayan harpist- Lubaantun
You will rise early to take a guided bird walk along the river bank and also through the orchard and meadows by the Lodge at Big Falls. After you have enjoyed breakfast, you will visit the home of Mr Florencio Mes a Kek’chi who is a Mayan harpist and instrument maker. He will play for you; let you see his workshop and kitchen garden. Afterwards, you will travel to the Lubaantun Mayan site which was the place where the Crystal Skull was discovered back in 1926. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Rio Blanco National Park where you can have lunch and also swim in the waterfall after learning about the natural history of the area from a local guide. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided).
Day 7
Blue Creek Village
This morning after breakfast you will travel by car thirteen miles to Blue Creek Village where you will learn from highly experienced guides about the medicinal plants of the rainforest, cave systems in the hills and mountainsides of the area. Blue Creek offers seasonal activities such as, swimming into the cave from where the creek leaves the mountains, hiking through a dry cave, walking along a medicinal plant trail and visiting the guide’s home to learn how to grind corn and make tortillas! For those feeling very active, you can also climb up to the peak of a valley for great views of the surrounding areas.
Day 8
Placencia
Arrive in Placencia where you will spend the day at your beachside hotel. You can also book tours locally.
Days 9 - 11
Placencia
Relax on the beach, enjoy the hotel or we can help you organise a tour.
Day 12
Return to London
Travel to Placencia airport for your flight to Belize and then home!
