Xunantunich and Barton Creek Cave
Today you will start your day by enjoying a tour of Xunantunich meaning 'Stone Woman' in Mayan. This site located on the banks of the Mopan River was once a popular city in the 300-900AD time. The tallest pyramid in the site is 130 feet, El Castillo, is known for the band of stucco decoration which once extended around the whole temple. In the centre of the site, there are 6 major plazas and more than 25 temples and palaces in the whole area.
We will then travel to the river at Barton Creek wehre we will take a canoe ride into the cave system of Xibalba (Maya for Underworld). This cave system was used for ceremonial purposes and also as a burial site by the Maya people.
