Sonia was born in a small coastal town called Mollendo - Arequipa located in the south of Peru. After spending many happy childhood years playing on the beach and at her grandmother’s farm, Sonia left home to study Archaeology and Tourism at the University of Arequipa.
It was in Arequipa that she had her first taste of Tourism working as a receptionist at local hotel and at local travel agency whilst she completed her studies. Following graduation, she began to work as a local guide leading groups of tourists to the Colca Canyon and on occasion putting them through their paces climbing the gruelling 5825 metre 'Misti' volcano!
It was during her tours as a local guide that Sonia was talent spotted by the Canadian firm GAP Adventures. Initially GAP sent Sonia to lead tours through her beloved Peru where she hiked the Inca Trail no less than 45 times! Throughout the next ten years she led tours in Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Bolivia whilst also spending her free time in Colombia and Venezuela. Sonia was always fascinated by the contrasts of her continent, be it the Andes, the Amazon or the Patagonian foothills.
In 2010 Sonia moved to London to be with her husband. It was at this point she became a member of the Latin American team at Rainbow Tours. She has recently returned from a trip to Panama and Nicaragua. Sonia maintains the philosophy that the best person to sell the continent is someone who really knows the continent.
