Located in the Caribbean sea to the northwest of Colombia, the islands of San Andres and Providencia along with Santa Catalina, were declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2000. Believed to have been discovered by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage, the islands of San Andres were originally controlled by the English and Dutch. Nowadays, San Andres is best known for it’s stunning beaches, some of which have pinkish red coral sand. The clear blue sea is a haven for snorkelling and scuba diving in this rich underwater paradise.
