Kampala is Uganda’s hustling, bustling capital city, built over seven hills.

The city has many cultural and historical sites that are well worth taking the time to see. The Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO world heritage site, where four former Kabakas (kings) of the Buganda tribe are buried, is a top choice. At the Namirembe Cathedral, the biggest in East Africa, the congregation is called to worship by the beating of drums, and the Bha’i Temple, the only one of its kind in Africa, is open to all and can seen from miles around. Accommodation in Kampala ranges from the 5-star Kampala Serena to a host of comfortable mid-range and budget options.

Entebbe

Entebbe is the airport town, situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, and it has a good range of accommodation options, from chain hotels such as the Protea Entebbe Hotel, to smaller, more personal  guesthouses such as the Boma Guest House. Spend time in the scenic botanical gardens or at the wildlife education centre, take a day trip to Ngamba Chimp Island or spend a day fishing for the huge Nile Perch,  Entebbe is the perfect place to spend your first or last night in Uganda.

One of the best places to see the renowned Shoebill, or Baleiniceps rex, is only a 40 minutes drive from Entebbe, in the Mabamba Wetlands. This endangered pre-historic looking bird is almost 5ft tall with an 8ft wing span and we recommend adding this excursion to any Uganda holiday.

Jinja

The town of Jinja lies on the banks of Lake Victoria where the River Nile spills out into the lake. Often billed as the adventure capital of East Africa you can enjoy a host of outdoor activities here, everything from white water rafting (some of the best rapids in the world) to quad biking, horse riding and bungee jumping. Accommodation options range from the breathtaking Wildwaters Lodge, built on its own private island in the middle of the mighty Nile, to the RainForest Lodge, set inside the tranquil Mabira Forest.
