South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal province is an extraordinarily beautiful mixture of mountains, natural wildlife reserves, wilderness and pristine beaches. These two luxurious lodges, Thanda and Thonga, are both off the beaten track and combine to make an unusually relaxing safari and beach holiday.
Fly overnight to Johannesburg and connect with the morning flight to Richards Bay. Here you are met and driven to Thanda Private Game Reserve, near Hluhluwe, South Africa’s oldest wildlife reserve.

Thanda Main Lodge
Stay three nights at Thanda Main Lodge in one of only nine luxury suites, each with a spacious bathroom and a huge granite bathtub, big enough for two. Enjoy dusk and dawn game drives, romantic fire-side dinners and excellent Zulu and Western cuisine. Unwind with an Africology spa treatment in Thanda’s wellness centre.
A short road transfer will take you to Thonga Beach Lodge on the wild Maputaland coast. Spend six nights in a luxury beach-side chalet, where you can sit up in bed and enjoy the splendid sea view, explore miles of pristine beach and sip sundowners on your private terrace.

Thonga Beach Lodge - snorkelling
Your stay here includes all meals, kayaking on nearby Lake Sibaya, a boat cruise, snorkelling, swimming and wilderness walks. Optional extras include turtle tracking (in season), a scenic flight along the coastline to Kosi Bay, deep-sea and fly-fishing, as well as off-shore scuba diving and PADI diving courses at M’bibi, where the reefs are considered to be some of the best in the world.
