Africa & Madagascar in February
South Africa remains at the height of summer. The Western Cape is a-buzz with festivals, like the Kirstenbosch Summer Festival, and the long summer evenings are perfect for picnics at Boschendaal Estate in the Winelands. Botswana is wonderful, and less expensive, in the ‘green season’.
In East Africa, the period between the short rains of November and the long rains of April/May is superb for sun-worshippers and divers in Zanzibar, Pemba and the Swahili Coast. February is the peak period for observing the wildebeest migration on the southern plains of the Serengeti – book early to secure the best seasonal mobile camps. The Masai Mara provides excellent game viewing throughout the year and this is a wonderful month for a safari in Uganda.
February is dry and hot in Sierra Leone. It continues to be peak season for winter sun in Oman
The southern Indian Ocean is hot and humid, with a risk of cyclones affecting Madagascar, southern Mozambique and Mauritius.
Namibia remains very hot with a risk of flash flooding.
Latin America in February
Mexico’s Caribbean Coast is particularly lovely during February. Pick one of the gorgeous hotels along the Riviera Maya and enjoy excursions inland to some of the most impressive Central America Mayan sites.
February is also Carnival time which can be celebrated in various destinations but most notably in Rio de Janeiro. But remember if you are interested in Carnival then be sure to book early!
