Fanjove Private Island

Fanjove Private Island is a small beach lodge with just six eco-bungalows an easy 40 minute flight from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. 

Accessed by boat only and built to be almost invisible on approach, this eco friendly lodge is the only establishment on Fanjove Island.

Barefoot luxury is the order of the day with a relaxed informal approach; borne out but the lack of manicured lawns, paved pathways and concrete structures. Instead there are sand covered floors in all the communal areas and just six comfortable bandas strung out along the main beach.

Each of the six A-frame thatch and timber bungalows has a downstairs bedroom and an upstairs dayroom with uninterrupted sea views, perfect to escape from the heat of the day. All have been designed with the environment in mind, to take advantage of the light breezes and are powered solely by solar power panels. The ensuite bathroom is open to the sky for hot showers under the stars.

A meandering path leads you to the main lodge and dining area where delicious fresh fusion meals reflect the multicultural influence from the historical and recent pasts.

Activities available include snorkelling, diving and kite surfing, dhow sailing, excursions to tidal sandbanks, bird watching, island walks, turtle conservation activities, seasonal whale watching and trips to neighbouring islands.
