Mashpi Lodge
is an impressive and magical retreat hidden inside the Tumbez-Choco-Darien area of the Cloud Forest. Set in a 1200 hectare private reserve, the Mashpi Lodge has a large emphasis on the environment, the local people and innovation.
It has created its very own canopy gondola which is used to transport up to 7 people on a 2 kilometre trail through the forest as well as having electrically operated buggies to move guests around areas of the forest.
The Mashpi Lodge itself is built on an area of raised ground which ensures guests have a 360 degree forest view and has been constructed using glass and steel and runs on hydro-electricity. The lodge offers 22 rooms and suites (the latter have Jacuzzis), a lounge, dining room and massage room. Guests can dine at the restaurant serving Choco cuisine where food is prepared using the freshest local ingredients!
Visitors to the Mashpi Lodge can expect to become immersed into Cloud Forest and see some of the most amazing bird species and over 4000 orchid species. Activities may include; trekking, voyaging on the canopy gondola, spotting animals and learning about the flora and fauna from the Ecuadorian special guides.
