Motswiri Camp is a wonderful haven renown for its riding and walking safaris. Each of the five tents feature a full bathroom and shower, twin sinks, an outdoor deck and a wonderfully luxurious double bed. This is the perfect place for the slightly less intrepid traveller! As well as the fantastic accommodation there are also comfortable outdoor areas, complete with a plunge pool and fantastic views over the spillway where the animals come to drink, giving you a very close view of the wildlife in their natural habitat.
This beautiful and remote area is the meeting point of two diverse environments, the open flood plains of the Okavango Delta and the thick forests lining the Selinda Spillway. The wildlife is plentiful with the Selinda Reserve boasting giraffes, zebras, tsessebes, Roan Antelopes, Sable, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs and many elephants, guaranteeing a wonderful and varied safari experience. The green season is particularly good for bird watching.
Family Safaris: Botswana is an excellent choice for family travel and Motswiri Camp has outlined a 2 night itinerary especially designed to entertain children in a fun and educational way. The minimum age is 5 years but they will take younger children with staff on hand who will be able to baby sit for you. Children are given a welcome back on arrive, food is wholesome and nutritious, they are regaled with African tales, star gazing and toasted marshmallows around the fire at night, use of the horses include riding lessons, pony painting, swimming with horses, then more traditional activities of conservation walks, drives, boating, fishing etc.

Motswiri Camp supports and upholds the principles of sustainability and responsible eco-tourism. The camp is constructed from canvas and timber and has a lower footprint than many others. The camp is largely powered by solar energy and uses low energy bulbs.Motswiri supports the local economy and sources consumables locally where possible, all waste products are removed from the reserve for recycling in Maun. Most of the safaris are primarily horse or foot based, which have a significantly lower impact on the environment through reduced vehicle use causing reduced damage to roads.
On Safari
The focus at Motswiri Camp is on their horse back riding and walking safaris, however there are a whole host of other safari actiivities available for non riding guests. The diverse range of environments at Motswiri attracts a wide range of game, although not in the large numbers experienced in some other areas, the camp offers a unique way in seeing the game with their focus on walking and riding activities.
Species that may be seen at Motswiri include African Bush Elephant, Buffalo, Hippopotamus, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Nile crocodile, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Hyena, Kudu, Impala, Black backed Jackal, Vervet Monkey, Plains Zebra, and the endangered African Wild Dog.
For any horse riding enthusiasts the camp offers riding safaris which are camp based or make use a remote fly camp, a 3 night stay riding safari is recommended by typical itineraries would be 5 to 7 nights. The camp has twenty well trained horses, all stabled close to the camp. All of the horses are accustomed to riding in areas where big game is prevalent. Riding is available year round and the terrain is a mix of riverene bush, open flood plains and savannah. Each ride would not normally accommodate more than six people at a time and will be led by a guide. Up to six hours are spent in the saddle each day and these safaris are open for experienced riders only.
Walking safaris at Motswiri involve tracking spoors and searching for specific game and birdlife, studying in detail flora and fauna or are tailored to activities specific to your area of interest. All walking safaris are led by an armed, professional guide. Groups are a maximum of 6 and walks can be on dry plains, through shallow flood plains and often include time to explore the waters by mokoro or larger boats.
Game drives and night drives are also part of the programme at Motswiri Camp depending on water levels.
