Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero ,‘place of high view’ in Setswana, is an opulent lodge in a great location, high on a hill next to Chobe National Park.

Its commanding views of the Chobe River, islands and floodplains, extend as far as Namibia, and the sunsets are spectacular. Renowned for its great cuisine, you can enjoy a sumptuous lunch with vintage wines, take a safari cruise on the river, or a game drive in the national park, and then relax in your very own sunken bath.

Chobe National Park’s diverse landscapes range from riverine forests to floodplains and intermittent marshlands. The area is home to the largest concentration of elephants in Africa, as well as hippo, buffalo, antelope and lion.

Each of the lodge’s 15 spacious stone and thatched bungalows has its own bathroom with a large sunken bath, indoor and outdoor showers, private garden with hammock, sala or private balcony, hairdryer, ceiling fans and air-conditioning.

The wine cellar is excellent and stores a large variety of the finest South African and European wines. Spa treatments are offered in your room. The lodge also boasts a lovely split-level swimming pool, library, curio shop and an e-communications centre, with telephone, fax and internet access. Electricity, 240 volts, is permanently supplied.

Activities

Game drives in 4WD vehicles with expert rangers, motorboat safaris and ‘sundowner’ river cruises are all on offer, year-round. Fishing trips are also available at an additional cost; pre-booking is advised.

In addition to the activities provided by the lodge, on day-trips to Victoria Falls you can take a microlite or helicopter flight over the Falls, tour the Falls on foot, visit a local village and craft market. And for those who seek adrenalin-fuelled activities, there is bungee jumping, river rafting and tether ballooning. Scenic flights over four countries are also available.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome at Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero but the group activities are not suitable for 5’s and under. Baby sitting is available (payable locally).
