7 WORCESTER STREET is a historic Victorian building close to Grahamstown’s Rhodes University which has been restored as a most sumptuous guest house. Understated luxury is the style, with artworks, antiques and an elegant ambience.
There is a cordon bleu chef who prepares wonderful breakfasts and snacks to accompany your sundowners, followed by and dinner on request. Meals are based on the freshest local produce, with homemade cheese and preserves.
There are just ten extremely comfortable suites, with king-size beds, mini-bars, satellite television, and super bathrooms.
Worcester Street is the base for Alan Weyer’s absorbing ‘Spirits of the Past’ tours. Alan was named South Africa’s tourist guide of the year in 2006 and leads tours into the area surrounding Grahamstown – ‘Frontier Country’, as it is known. Visiting almost forgotten forts, battle sites, monuments and war memorials, recounting stories of ancient times, when the Khoi and San inhabited the area, and of the Frontier Wars between the British and the Xhosa, Alan’s masterful tours bring alive the stories of many heroic people on all sides of these conflicts.
